Grüß Gott from Munich, Germany. This is Susie Hampy Lentz here, and I'm having doubts about my memory. I thought I did pretty well remembering things, but everyone is coming up with such details that (1) I either don't have a good memory, or (2) I had a really dull high school life. I seem to have forgotten many of the teachers' names, so it's great fun having you all trigger my memory.

Mr. Bockowitz, algebra teacher, did do a nice thing for me. I had strep throat during the mid-year finals in freshman year, and assumed I would have to make up the final when I returned to class. Mr. Bockowitz said he submitted an "A" for me, so I didn't have to take it.

Someone said that typing was the most important class he took in high school. None of us realized that we would use typing so much pre-computer days! Jerry Wyeth and Sharon Taylor (a male called Sharon?) were the two typing teachers. Do you remember those old manual typewriters, having to bang on the keys, and then throw the carriage return at the end of every row when you heard a ding?

Girls often wore tight wool skirts with a fitting sweater of the same color.

Did we already have panty hose then, or did we start out with garter belts and hose?

Remember the formals we wore to the dances, often strapless, with full skirts and lots of crinolines?

Yes, Hunt's Restaurant has really gone down hill since, but the tenderloins and hot fudge sundaes were great! I have long since stopped going there on my visits.

Someone mentioned Harvey Tucker, Dean of Boys, and Max Mills, but I'm not sure anyone has mentioned Florence Poshard, Dean of Girls -- Flo Po -- who always walked at a slant like she was leaning into the wind.

I remember taking a message to someone during classes, and stopping at the auditorium balcony doors to listen to Craig Thiersch practice the organ, which was really nice.

I remember sitting in Mrs. Szepessy's choir class, and Margaret Ring sitting behind me pulling gray hairs out of my head. Margaret, my hair has turned nicely gray naturally.

I remember singing "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" and "I Feel Pretty" in that choir, quite a mixture.

I remember Larry Rager's nice bass voice when he sang. Becky Bourland also sang well. By the way, Becky now prefers Rebekah Bourland -- which is hard to remember when I think so fondly of her as Becky.

I'm looking forward to the reunion, but I'm hoping that there will be name tags with our high school graduation photo on them, to help me remember who people are.

Cheers,
Susie Hampy Lentz
