Inspired by your e-mail I just drove around Central to see what I ran into.
1. If you come south on North Street from Nebraska or McClure there are
barricades and announcements of "No Thru Traffic". You can drive
around these, but you will run into more barricades just after Richmond (on
North Street in front of Central).
2. The best way is to either turn onto Richmond from Sheridan or Knoxville.
Richmond is the side street next to Central between Central and the Central
Pool. This is the street that used to front the auto shop. That part of the
building is now labeled for Air Force ROTC. There is parking next to the
Central Pool and on North street on the block north of Central. There is also
parking next to the gym but I forgot to check whether you can get there. I
suspect that if you turn off Richmond behind Herke Field, there has always been
an entrance to that parking lot off of that street behind the school.
3. Don't (whaterver you do) try to get to Central from Hamilton Blvd,
Armstrong, Columbia Terrace, or Main Street; unless you know all the back
streets.
The Peoria High neighborhood is what we'd call in NYC mixed or dicey. I
wouldn't leave a HDTV Flat Screen in the back of a van or station wagon parked
in that neighborhood.
On the crime front, Peoria has not had a homicide this year (so far) and this
is especially unusual considering the increase in activities this past year
downtown and on the riverfront. The crowds downtown on Thursday nights through
Saturday nights are phenominal. The number of restaurants, bars, and clubs
downtown have increased significantly and (from my experience) they're all
full.

Ray, last time I tried to come down North St. from McClure, it was closed that
way as well. What about coming in the back way off of Sheridan? Marilynn
