On the subject of Hometown buffet: We go there from time to time with our kids
because of the variety; however, it has always been busy when we've gone there
and they have no separate dining areas (Country Buffet did, albiet a bit
small). I've never seen anybody try to have a party there (nothing bigger than
an extended family). The dining area is big, but it is one open room. The food
is passable but not special. The salad bar is decent.
Our kids don't love the place (understatement) but it saves arguments and you
can usually get in and out of there pretty quickly (even when there is a long
line to get in). Best of all for renovators like us: Lowes is accross the
parking lot!

Todd,
Yes, I read the emails, and I thought there was a Petco in that shopping area
already, but perhaps it was a balloon place -- and the Petco was at another
shopping area.
Peoria has changed over the years, and it's hard to remember from one visit to
the next. Did I tell you my disoriented story of meeting a Japanese woman in
the Geneva as to where in the States, and I said Illinois. She said, in a heavy
Japanese accent, that she had lived in Pee-or--ia. Well, I hadn't discussed
Peoria with anyone in years, and usually slurred "Peoria" in the
sentence of where I was from. (Yes, I know I am ending a sentence with a
preposition!! After all, I'm writing this after a half bottle of nice red wine,
and I don't care! I guess that is what I get writing emails at night and trying
to keep up with the time difference!) Brad was once asked long ago by his
secretary in Massachusetts, "What is a Peoria? Thus, I was hesitant to say
the name clearly. Well, this Japanese lady, Michiyo, became a very good friend,
and took pottery lessons from me, and I stayed with them in Peoria for a week
once. Koichi, her husband, worked at Caterpillar for a few years, and suddenly
someone noticed his green card had run out, and thus he was sent to Geneva,
Switzerland, for several years where Caterpillar has their European
headquarters. Talking about Peoria with someone who knew it, especially someone
Japanese, was a strange experience.
Thus, the other Buffet next to Barnes and Nobles sounds fine, too. I'm hoping
someone local will check it out for us, and pronounce it acceptable. I'm
probably better off with iced tea anyway!!!! I've seen it next to the book
store, but I haven't eaten there. What you do is go out War Memorial Drive,
past the intersection with University, and it will be on the left side with a
turn at the stop light.
As for an Internet Cafe in Peoria, I'll have to ask my nieces if they know of
one. Or perhaps someone in our class will respond with an answer.
I'm getting really addicted to this communication! Is there a cure?
Cheers,
Susie
