Hi,

I've been thinking about the times as much as school. So I remember when:

$1.00 worth of gas would let you drive around for an entire evening.

Gas wars. Do you remember the statinon at McClure and University where gas was $019.9, the guy filled the tank, cleaned the glass and checked the oil, and then gave a set of 6 coke glasses and S & H Green Stamps?

The S & H redemption center was on McClure between Sheridan and Knoxville.

Downtown we had the large Bergner's and Block & Kuhl's Department Stores.

Downtown Peoria was busy with lots of retail stores.

Caterpillar didn't have its main office in Peoria, but across the river in East Peoria.

Cinemascope movies. Remember the curved screen at the Palace Theater? It was great for Spartacus and other movies.

How about the Peoria Drive-In Theater and the Bellevue? Remember them?

Was it Kane's Drug Store at Main and University with the Velvet Freeze across the street?

If there were any gangs or drugs during our years at PHS, I wasn't aware of them.

Bradley basketball was huge and people parked for blocks around whenever there was a home game at the Fieldhouse.

PHS games against Manual and Spaulding always generated the most spirit....and often fights after the games.

Finally....does anyone have a picture of the rest of us from Whittier? I can't find anything.
