All,

I've been away and am reading through 20 or 30 of these messages and have been making notes to put into one or two messages to all of you. But I do have to respond to this one. I was one of the unfortunate saps who was set on the fountain. It worked; I was humiliated. But then, these were big scary guys and I must have weighed all of 110 pounds (I know I only weighed 120 when I got my Selective Service card).

More later.

Tom

My memories are limited to the first two years, i.e. pre-driver's license, but I'll always remember Glyda Swisher's Latin classes and how she introduced us to the personal attack as a standard teaching method: "The answers aren't written on the ceiling, Lee Swardenski..." "How about that, Tom Koch, you seem so interested in what your neighbor is doing, I'll bet you didn't hear what I just said, did you?" "You people..."

I also remember the fear we incoming freshmen had of being "set on a fountain" by the upperclassmen. Maybe that was a discontinued practice under the enlightened rule of Mr.. Mills, so it doesn't get much mention in these Memories.
