Ted:

That would make a great story if it's true (I don't know, but I'd love to know this answer). Chet was an undergraduate at BU in sequence with our years at PHS. By 1960 he was world renowned, particularly for his duels with Oscar Robertson (Cincinnati, '56-'60). As a Pro he was "all pro" year in and year out and was a starting forward on the Philly team (with Wilt Chamberlain) that won the NBA championship.

I remember seeing him during summer terms at Bradley working on his masters and it does seem to me that he was doing his masters in education. After his Pro years I believe that he became a business man and got into some kind of producing (in LA).

Sully's in downtown Peoria has no pictures or references to Chet who in my opinion was the biggest name player we ever experienced at Bradley.

For you basketball fans, if you go to http://PJSTAR.COM (Peoria Journal Star) and check Phil Theobald's column from last Friday (under Sports) titled "Cat Yellow turns to Gold" you will find a nice description of the Caterpillar Cats golden anniversary and the three Olympic golds they won for the US in 1952, 1956, and 1960.

The success of the Cats, Bradley, and PHS was the reason Peoria was named Basketball capitol of the world in 1952 by Look Magazine. At this point in time I question whether Look made this decision before or after the scandals from the 1950 season broke.
