Dave,
I don't remember the assembly about trench mouth. But I remember Mr. Mills as a
good principal (not that I saw him that much), distinguished, respected by the
students. I called the school to see if they could help with this trivia
question. The secretary checked a plaque out in the hall and reported that he
died in 1966. She thought he died at the school, but wasn't sure. I have no
idea where I head the "rumor," but it must have been someone else or
a figment of someone's imagination.

I remember that Max Mills died young, but didn't he have a son that sang,
played guitar and performed in Peoria bars as a one man band? I saw this person
perform in the 1971-1972 timeframe and he was pretty good. Who can forget our
senior year when Max called an assembly to address the food spoilage in the
cafeterria caused by the rumor of "Trench Mouth" that spread through
Central's halls?
