Classmates,
I've been reading all these letters and have been reluctant to respond until
inspired by Don Heytman's letter. So here goes.
I was fortunate to be accepted into a co-op course with Caterpillar/Bradley
after high school since I had not planned on college or anything else at the
time. Shortly after high school I joined the West Peoria Volunteer Fire
Department. I was drafted after a 4 year training course with Cat and 4 months
after marrying Jane. With a 2 year degree I was accepted into Artillery OCS at
Fort Sill, OK and was commissioned in August of 1967. We spent 2 years at Fort
Campbell, KY. where our red headed daughter Julie was born.
We returned to West Peoria, Caterpillar and the fire department and then
Douglas was born. We moved to Dunlap in 1973 and Andrew was born. I joined the
Dunlap Fire Department and have been the Chief for over 20 years. I retired
from Cat in '99 after many years as a maintenance foreman. I now work part time
as a fire investigator for Engineering and Fire Investigations. My wife is a
retired RN and works part time at Hoerr's nursery. She also has a business
making and selling hats and has a web site at www.classicwoolens.com. We have a
grandson (5) and a red headed granddaughter (1) in Salt Lake City and two
grandsons (2 & 3) in Oak Ridge, TN. Our youngest, a graduate student at
Texas A&M, gets married at the end of this month.
I look forward to seeing all of you.
Wayne
