Dave--Wasn't Babe King what we would call a "trainer" today? I remember he umpired the Little League games at Herke Field in the summers.

Lee, thanks for the prod re the freshman baseball team. I also have a recollection of coach Corky, but mine is not after hitting a home run unfortunately. This was the game against Limestone with "Babe" King doing the umping. I was on second base and we also had a runner on first when their pitcher exercised a perfect pick off throw to their shortstop that caught me just short of returning to second. Corky was coaching third base at that time and you can imagine how long that trek to the sideline was for me!! Corky greeted me with words meant only for my ears and stressed his point with at least three jabs from his first finger knuckle to my sternum. To this day, I can't believe that "Babe" made that call.....I did learn a life lesson that day though.
