Just got back from vacation and spend a good hour or more on Memory Lane
reading all the notes that had come in during those two weeks. I'm glad to hear
someone is saving the e-mails. Might make a good handout for the 17th. I'm
keeping a folder, too if anyone needs a copy. Thanks everyone for the wonderful
reminders.
My memories of Max Mills are of a kind, sincere man who was really interested
in the students. I remember his calling me out of physics class (Mrs Herke,
please note the use of the possessive pronoun with the gerund) to let me know I
got into my 1st choice college.
Speaking of Physics, since I moved back to Peoria, I've been doing a lot of
volunteer work at Friendship House. I used to see Mr Horst down there every
Thursday morning in the computer lab writing letters in German to his relatives
in Europe. We'd chat a bit about PHS. I believe he died a couple of years ago.
Nice man.
Does any one else remember our senior class play -- The Diary of Anne Frank?
Directed by Miss/Mrs/Ms Dobrunz. I thought it an interesting choice, since
class plays were traditionally comedies. But I learned a lot about history
being in it. And had fun, too. My only foray into acting.
I agree that it was a simpler time back then. I have a niece just starting high
school in the Chicago area and it's scary the things that go on in school
there.
Remember slide rules?
More later. Look forward to seeing all (or at least most) of you on the 17th.
