Mary and Bruce,

I enjoyed reading your memories. Yes, our memories were of a different time, but our kids and grandchildren will have other great memories -- and maybe not understand ours.

To give you an example -- we haven't lived in Peoria since 1963, but I have always returned to Peoria for my annual family visits. When our kids were small, Brad's parents would often take them swimming in an motel swimming pool downtown -- sorry, but I forgot the name of it, and it's no longer there -- they had friends that managed this motel. I thought that was all they ever did --- that is, until we returned perhaps 10 years later when our kids were teenagers. We drove through downtown Peoria, past City Hall, and suddenly this triggered their memories. I think Jake said to Kiki something like "was that the fountain we used to wade into with Grandma and collect the money?" Kiki responded, "Yes, I was just thinking that, but I wondered if that was in my imagination." I couldn't believe that Grandma walked them up the street from the motel, and they waded into the City Hall fountain and actually took money out of it!!! I was shocked, and we all had a good laugh at it all. I was surprised that I hadn't heard of it years earlier.

I also think that what goes around comes around -- meaning that every so often we return to more family values, that things cycle, that not all is forever downhill. Our grandchildren will be fine -- if these politicians don't get us into a major war, that is! I have faith in our grandchildren, but not always in present-day politicians.

Cheers,
Susie
