For those interested in Bradley University Basketball facts, please check out
http://pjstar.com for the Bradley Basketball 100 years articles. I believe
these were written as a prelude to Bradley's new Coach and upcoming season
(Bradley recently named Jim Les as their new coach). I found these articles
spellbinding (but of course I am a sucker for things that are Bradley or
Peoria).
We had a number of Bradley super star offspring at PHS. In our class we had
Chuck Orsborne's daughter Carolyn (sp?) and didn't we have Carl Schunk (same
name as his dad)? At TJ we had Ted Panish, didn't we? These fathers were all
Bradley Famous Fivers (1939). At TJ we also had Ray Ramsey whose dad was
captain of the 1942-43 Bradley team.
Joe Hanlon: Do you remember Ray Ramsey (the father) playing in our TJ father
son basketball game? What a show! Ray Ramsey (senior) played professional
Basketball and professional football after Bradley.
I remember Ray Ramsey (the son) and Jerry Diamond as the best guards in
Peoria's grade schools (we [TJ] won the city title, I believe). They were as
impressive as any pair of guards I've seen since (for their age and size).
Mike Cook: I remember being impressed with your performances as the leader of
the Loucks' team, but I remember your "thumper" (single cylinder
Harley) in even more endearing terms (what a bike!). When we got to Central you
were our entry in PHS basketball history. Remember the picture in the PJS of
you wearing a sandbag on your chest and working out for (was it Dawdy?).
Much of this was inspired by Joe Hanlon's memoir. If you haven't read Joe's
"memories", miss it at your loss! (PHS62 women, it's not that much
about sports!)
