Classmates of the Peoria (Central) High School Class of 1962:

The Peoria Park District and Saint Francis Hospital have put together a Physical Fitness/Wellness center on Peoria's riverfront that is first rate. Those of you who (like me) need to workout to maintain health/weight might give this facility a try while you're in Peoria. If you mention that you are here for the Peoria High class reunion at the front desk you can get a day pass for $8 (versus the normal $10 fee).

RiverPlex offers a four lane 25 yard lap pool, a warm exercise pool, an indoor water slide/park, and a jacuzzi all looking out onto the Illinois river. Additionally they offer weight machines, exercise machines, and an eighth mile (air conditioned) indoor track with windows looking out to the river on one side and Peoria's downtown skyline on the other. They also offer suana and steam rooms.

There is a very nice running/biking path right outside RiverPlex along the river. (This run has made a major contribution to my psyche after giving up Central Park and Prospect Park in NYC.) You can clock three to five miles on this trail or I'll be glad to tell you the mileage up the Main Street hill and around BU (another good run).

I've used YMCAs and other health club facitiies from New York to Santa Monica, Ca and this is the best facility that I've had a chance to use.
