The Madison still exists, albeit a little rough. It's being used as an
"underground rock"/jazz performance space. Peorians our age think
it's awful. The space would be a big hit in NYC. They had the "Three Dog
Night" there last year. Fall of 2000 I saw Spanky McFarlane there (a show
called "Mama Palooza" sp?).
It reminds me of the "Temple" in downtown Atlanta.

If you recall, as you went downtown on Main St., the Madison was on the left
and the Palace was on the right, but one part of a block down. There used to be
a sporting goods store near the Madison as well. They were wonderful, old style
theaters, with the full balconies as you mentioned. I recall sitting in the
balcony most of the time.
I've tried to recall other movies from the time, but I'm having trouble
remembering. I do seem to recall some 3D movies, possibly a western with John
Wayne, at the Palace? Was it Hondo??? Also, when did Lawrence of Arabia come
out? I think that was during this time also. It was another Cinemascope
production. I think the movies made that way were more interesting and
certainly more visual than what's done today. Imagine Star Wars in Cinemascope.
Both theaters are now gone, as is the Rialto. It's a shame. Is that
progress????
